GC-227. McLaren Chrome Effect Gravity Colors Paint.
DIRECTIONS:
- Shake bottles until paint is thoroughly mixed!
- Use only with airbrush!
- First apply GC-227a McLaren Chrome Effect Enamel Undercoat over Dark Surface Primer if the Light Surface Primer is not the optimal for another color used to paint the same part.
- Enamel paint must be sprayed in very thin layers, until you achieve a glossy and smooth black surface.
- Let the enamel paint curing protected from dust for at least 24 hours.
- Then apply GC-227b McLaren Chrome Effect Basecoat over the completely cured GC-227a McLaren Chrome Effect enamel Undercoat.
- Apply the GC-227b McLaren Chrome Effect Basecoat with the lowest paint flow possible. you will need much less volume of paint than the used for undercoat.
- We recommend using low air pressure, between 15 to 20 PSI (1,0 to 1,4 BAR) when spraying Gravity Colors paints. This is just a recommendation. Optimal pressure is unique for each user, and depends on nozzle diameter, spraying distance or velocity, among other factors.
- Clear coating is not required, but if you need to clear coat it, masking or applying decals on it, we recommend the use of the Chrome Paint Sealer.
- This product is not compatible with our Acrylic Thinner.
- Do not use near heat, sparks or open flame!
- Use in well ventilated area.
- Tighten cap securely after each use.
- Special directions for applying Gravity Colors chrome paint:
- The secret to a good chrome effect is to achieve a perfectly dark glossy undercoat, the best way to get that finish is to spray a thin undercoat with black enamel paint.
- The downside of enamel paint is that is more delicate to work with, and it needs to be completely dry to avoid reactions with other paints. Our testers came to the conclusion that 24 hours was enough for a thin undercoat to completely dry in appropriate weather conditions, but if the undercoat is a bit more thick, and the temperature is colder, then it would need more time to cure.
- In several test completed, the results showed that the more time allowed for the base coat to dry, the more glossy and a better mirror effect finish was able to be achieved when sprayed the samples after 72 hours, but such a long cure time is really not necessary.
- Another thing to consider, is the application of the base coat. Chrome paint contains very small flakes in a liquid which is extremely sensitive to be sprayed properly. When paint particles fall onto glossy surface, they position themselves in a flat position, so paint must fall onto the base coat almost dry to make that happen, that is why it’s recommended to spray with more air than paint. Puddle or accumulation of paint must be avoided which would settle the flakes in a random way. The use of a dual action airbrush is highly recommended to be able to control how much paint is actually delivered to the surface so that the right effect is achieved. If the chrome base coat is applied too heavy then it will look like a bright silver rather than chrome.
